Intermediate Java Developer

Working in the Systems group at Abebooks.com you will be responsible for developing the software that runs the world’s largest online bookstore. You have experience programming in successful Java teams as well as strong design skills, and are comfortable with both traditional client-server architectures and more modern service-oriented architectures. You have built web-based Java applications, but you have also have experience with Java outside of J2EE. You love technology and make it a point of pride to keep up on current development trends.

Must Have

  • Relevant university degree and/or 2+ years work experience in software engineering
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
  • 2+ years Java programming experience with solid J2EE focus.
  • Strong OO Design Skills.
  • Experience with Java IDE such as Jbuilder, Eclipse, IntelliJ or similar.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Experience with a unit testing framework such as JUnit.

Should Have

  • Familiarity with JBoss, Velocity, Hibernate, Struts, Spring, Ant, Cruisecontrol, Maven and/or other large open source projects
  • Familiarity with DWR, Prototype, Dojo, and/or other prominent Ajax toolkits.
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL

Responsibilities

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have at least 3 years of experience in product management, preferably in a software or web service company. Experience managing technical projects and the ability to work with agile teams and influence their decision-making are key requirements. You should be highly organized, and have excellent interpersonal skills and an affinity for technology. You’ll have demonstrable experience in identifying new business opportunities and in developing and implementing plans that capitalize on these opportunities. All candidates must have a BA or BS; an MBA is highly desired; a degree in a CS field is a huge plus. You must be proficient in a variety of analytical tools and have an excellent understanding of ecommerce metrics.

Operating Systems Administrator

We are looking for a dynamic individual to join our Systems department. As a member of our Systems group you will join our team in providing UNIX systems administration and support in our highly available mission critical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all operational and administrative activities for system management including diagnosing/troubleshooting complex problems.
  • Identify and solve issues in a fast-paced atmosphere.
  • Network and user administration.
  • Administration and support of hardware and software.
  • Effectively monitor performance of systems and make recommendations for improvement of enterprise applications.
  • On-call, via pager, first response monitor for website and batch problems on a rotating basis with other Operations personnel, on-call rate adjustment provided

Qualifications

  • Experience with Apache web server configuration
  • Experience with JAVA and Tomcat application servers Familiarity with Cisco network hardware, IOS and standard network protocol principals and functions
  • Extensive experience in administering Unix Systems. This includes installation, patch installation, disk configuration, network configuration, and familiarity with all of the standard UNIX tools.
  • Should be thoroughly familiar with internet protocols and configuration of servers that support them: HTTP, FTP, POP, SENDMAIL, DNS, NFS, SMB, SSH.
  • Experience with shell and PERL scripting for the purpose of systems administration.
  • Experience with different type of RAID configurations and advanced file system managers.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies in a production environment (VMware and Xen).
  • Experience with backup technologies and methodologies (Veritas NetBackup, file replication).
  • Experience working in a “lights out” environment
  • University or college degree in Computer Science or Technology with at least four years experience in UNIX Systems administration in a mission-critical 24 x 7x 365 server environment

Junior Quality Assurance Analyst
